Our first road trip continued into North Carolina, where we spent the night in Asheville, home of the beautiful Biltmore Estate. The luxurious 250 room house was built by the Vanderbilts and is the largest family home in the United States. The grounds cover nearly 7000 acres! We were lucky enough to visit close to Christmas and enjoyed a night tour of the house, every room was beautifully adorned with decorations and Christmas trees. Unfortunately there was no photography allowed inside the house.
Our next stop was New Bern, home of Pepsi Cola! And bears… lots of bears.
We drove through the Outer Banks region on the way home and stopped at the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kill Devil Hills, near Kitty Hawk. This was the site for the Wright Brothers first flight, aka the birthplace of aviation. I can see why they chose this place, the wind was incredible as we walked along the flight line.
